Backstory:
Rondo, or Felix as his parents named him, had always been different compared to his brothers and sisters. He cared more about keeping his coat neat than playing in the dirt, liked to eat his food after it was cut up (and sometimes even cooked!) so as not to have to rip and tear at it, would stare for hours at birds while listening to them sing, and refused to ever hunt and kill his own food. His sisters taught him how to keep himself well groomed and looking cool, and he got along with them much better than with his brothers who only wanted to wrestle and hunt. Hoping he would grow out of it, his parents did nothing to discourage him hanging around with his female friends. They occasionally tried to have playdates with other male cubs, but they never clicked and Felix would always go back to his originally group of female friends. As he grew older, he only grew more and more into a very stylish and appearance-oriented tiger. He became obsessed with making sure he looked perfect and would often help his sisters style their hair and find posh accessories for them to wear, though they found him a bit odd for it.
When he wasn’t preoccupied with his looks, Felix was busy listening to music. Though he enjoyed listening more, he can often be heard humming under his breath. While he prefers classical music such as Chopin and Bach, he would also listen to rock, pop, and jazz. His love of music became so strong that he one day decided to change his name to Rondo. Furious at what they thought was a betrayal, and saddened that he wasn’t more like his brothers, Rondo’s parents told him he had to leave in the hopes that he’d grow up and come to his senses.
Contrary to their beliefs, Rondo took their dismissal rather well. He’d wanted to travel but didn’t know how to tell his parents he wanted to leave. Elated, he began his travels, making friends wherever he went. Never before had Rondo been so well received, and he realized how fun this traveling was. People finally accepted him for who he was and he felt more at home without an actual home than he ever had while living with his family.
As Rondo was wandering around the desert one day, he met a shaman-fox whom he spoke with at length. The two of them hit it off and spoke for hours of different kinds of music; Rondo explained rock to the fox, and the fox explained traditional marimba music to Rondo. The fox showed Rondo how he had a music-related necklace that he always wore. While Rondo was never seen without his purple headphones, he also wished he had something more permanent on his body to show it. He loved that his fur was grey and white like sheet music, but if only there was something more. With a smile, the shaman beckoned Rondo and led him to his hut. Once there, the shaman told Rondo to sit on the ground and then he began to move around the tiger while chanting and throwing herbs around the hut to cleanse the air and call the gods.
All at once, it became terribly dark and then Rondo felt something brush against his fur, like a giant paintbrush. As soon as it had arrived, the darkness was banished once again and the tiger found the light to be shining brightly as it was just moments before. He looked around for the shaman, but the fox was nowhere to be seen or smelled; it was like he’d vanished. Completely mystified, Rondo padded all around the hut and surrounding area looking for the shaman but never found a trace of him.
As he searched, Rondo found a strange sight. There was a large pile of blue and purple fur. Distracted from his search, Rondo crept over and prodded the colorful pile, then jumped back with alarm as it moved. He suddenly found himself staring into the eyes of a giant tiger whose eyes were the same color of purple as his own. The female tiger blinked at him, and he blinked back. Then she smiled and immediately jumped up to shake the dirt out of her fur and introduced herself. Horrified at the dirt in the female’s coat, Rondo helped her to clean it, introducing himself in the process and asking if the female had seen a shaman-fox. The tigress, who had introduced herself as Astreya, shook her head and said she hadn’t seen him, but had heard stories of him helping people he deemed kind and then disappearing.
Rondo frowned in thought then jumped up, trying to get a look at his coat. Astreya noticed how frantic he looked and asked what was wrong. Once he’d explained what had happened, Astreya laughed and told Rondo that his coat now looked like it had been dusted in music notes with a large treble clef and staff lines running down his back. Excited, Rondo all but jumped for joy.
Astreya was amused by this fancy-pants tiger and ended up talking with him for a while as they strolled back to the nearby town. By the end of the evening, the two felt like old friends. Rondo was loathe to part with his new friend and was trying to figure out how to figure out how they could keep in contact without sounding creepy and awkward about it. Buuuuuuut Astreya beat him to the punch, telling him about a world where she and her friends, or pack as they called themselves, lived. A little skeptically, Rondo accepted. He didn’t want to part ways with his new tigress friend, but neither was he sure he wanted to be stuck into a kind of family that judged him and tried to change him from what he was.
Once they arrived at Ephera, Rondo was pleasantly surprised that everyone was eager to meet him and learn about him. There was no judgment or trying to change him; they only wanted to be his friend. It didn’t take long before he had decided to make Ephera his home, forever casting away the shadow of his family that had hung over him and moving to stand in the spotlight with friends who accepted him for who he was.
Now, he lives by the coastline of Ephera, enjoying the brilliant sunsets and occasionally violent storms that grace the ocean-side. All the members of Idris’ pack enjoy going to him for fashion advice and he often puts together music concerts, fashion shows, and occasionally a ball or two. Of course, he also helps with the decorating and costumes for this, and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
